3 Tips For Letting More Light Into Your Home During The Winter Months

When winter comes, it can feel like you’re always in a cold house with very little light. Even when you look outside, it might feel overcast and dreary for a large part of the season. So when the sun does come out, you’re going to want to take full advantage of this.

To help you learn some ways that this can be done, here are three tips for letting more light into your home during the winter months.

Remove The Screens From Your Windows

While you want to have screens on your windows when you have them open in the spring and summer months so that you can keep bugs out of your house, when you don’t plan on opening your windows up much in the winter, you might want to consider taking the screens off so that you can let more light in.

The screens on your windows can act as a type of shade and block a portion of the sunlight from coming in. But if you take off the screens and store them during the winter months so that you can put them back on when spring comes around, you can get uninterrupted sunlight coming in your space through your windows, helping to really brighten up the space.

Use More Glass Throughout The Space

While you might not feel like you can really add more windows to your home if you don’t like the number that you have, you can find ways to add more glass to your space so that more natural light is able to come in in other ways.

When it comes to exterior doors, you may want to swap out the entire door for a glass one so that you can get more light coming in. Even just getting a new door that has a window in it can help a lot. Or, if you really want to let more light in, you could consider replacing some of your exterior wall with banks of glass doors instead.

Consider Swapping Out For Sheer Window Coverings

If you’re worried about keeping the cold from coming in around your windows during the winter, you’re likely going to want to use thicker window coverings to serve as insulation. But if what you’re really wanting is more light, you may want to swap out these thicker curtains for sheer ones.

With sheer curtains, while they can block a bit of the view so that you don’t have people peeping into your home, they can let a lot more sunlight in than with thicker window coverings.

If you want to get as much sunlight as possible coming into your home during the winter months, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you figure out some ways to make this happen.
